This Day in #ReitzFootball History (Nov. 7): Panthers win 1936 battle for bed-stricken coach

While the 2015 edition of the Mighty Panthers added to the rich legacy of Reitz Football, unfortunately there are no more games to look forward to this year. However, with so much tradition, there is plenty to look back on and remember.

With that in mind, ReitzFootball.com proudly presents “This Day in #ReitzFootball History,” a new series that will look back on the games played on a particular day throughout the nearly 100 years of our beloved school.

The Panthers have played six games on November 7.

  • Away (1925, 1947): 1-1
  • On Friday (1947, 2003, 2014): 3-0

The boys from out on Cole Mine Hill pulled one out of the fire for “Dutch” Saturday afternoon.

Coach Elmer “Dutch” Weber… was stricken with an appendicitis attack early Saturday.

Some 6000 fans sat tense on the cold concrete of the natural bowl…

Back came a perfect pas to little Bernett…and boom went Gander’s foot…squarely between the uprights went the ball and the Reitz High Panthers had pulled the unbelievable once more.
