A history of Reitz Football shutouts: #MakingTheCut presented by Bean’s Lawncare Plus

Welcome back to ReitzFootball.com’s newest series called Making the Cut, presented by Bean’s Lawncare Plus. In each edition, we take a look back at record-breaking achievements and outstanding performances made by the Mighty Panthers from throughout the school’s rich football history.

Last night’s 41-0 season-opening triumph over Henderson County was another memorable victory in the history of Reitz High School Football. In honor or the shutout, ReitzFootball.com has put together a special edition of #MakingTheCut that looks back at shutouts throughout our proud tradition.

 

Overall Shutouts

Last night was the Mighty Panthers’ 236th shutout and 153rd at Reitz Bowl.

As a percentage, we have shutout our opponents in 23.8% of all our games (991 total).

Of those 236 shutouts:

  • 225 wins
  • 10 ties
  • 1 loss (we beat Mater Dei 46-0 in 1959 but later had to forfeit for using an ineligible player)

Consecutive shutouts streaks:

  • 11 (Sept. 8, 1961 to Sept. 14, 1962)
  • 6 (Oct. 1, 1927 to Nov. 5, 1927)
  • 5 (Nov. 5, 1932 to Sept. 29, 1933)
  • 5 (Nov. 2, 1945 to Sept. 20, 1946)
  • 4 (Sept. 17, 1938 to Oct. 7, 1938)
  • 4 (Sept. 27, 1940 to Oct. 25, 1940)
  • 4 (Oct. 10, 1947 to Sept. 17, 1948)
  • 4 (Nov. 5, 1948 to Sept. 15, 1949)
  • 4 (Nov. 2, 1956 to Sept. 7, 1957)

Most shutouts in a season:

  • 9 (1961)
  • 6 (1927, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1935, 1938, 1940, 1956, 1958, 1960, 1986)
  • 5 (1930, 1945, 1946)
  • 4 (1926, 1928, 1936, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1948, 1953, 1957, 1962, 1969)

 

Season-opening shutouts

In the school’s 99 seasons, 35 of the season openers were shutouts (35.4%)

  • 34 were wins
  • 1 was a tie

Consecutive season-opening shutout streaks:

  • 14 years (1925-38)
  • 6 years (1960-65)

Championships realized in these 35 seasons:

  • 6 would go on to win state (11 overall),
  • 11 would win conference (30 total)
  • 14 would earn see city titles (39 total)
