The Panthers lost a heart-breaker Friday night, falling to Mater Dei, 29-28.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Reitz came marching back and scored 21 unanswered points. It was back and forth after that, and Mater Dei scored the winning touchdown and two-point conversion with 44 seconds left.
The Panthers fell to 8-1 overall, 6-1 in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference and 5-1 in the city, while the Wildcats improved to 9-0, 7-0 and 6-0, winning the league and city titles in the process. Mater Dei also retained the West Side Nut Club Trophy with the win.
With the conclusion of the regular season, Reitz begins their second season next Friday at Central in the first round of the Class 4A Sectional 24 tournament. The Bears improved to 5-4 after beat North, 41-13.
