The Courier & Press recently ran several online polls, asking their readers to vote for the “Best of High School Football” in the Tri-State area.
Here are the awards that were won involving Reitz:
#1 Rivalry: Reitz vs. Mater Dei
Most loyal fan base: Reitz
Best place to tailgate: Reitz Bowl
To the ire of the Reitz Football faithful, Mount Carmel edged out the Panthers in two big categories. Courier & Press readers said the Golden Aces had the best high school football tradition in the Tri-State and also the best place to watch a game, giving the nod to the Snake Pit instead of the Reitz Bowl.
Reitz also had the second best marching band, according to readers, behind Castle.
Dan Engler's love for Reitz Football goes back a long time. Engler played for the Panthers all four years of high school and graduated in 1996.
That summer, as the popularity of the Internet began to explode, Engler's search for Reitz Football information came up empty, so his father suggested he create a website. Engler taught himself HTML and launched the Unofficial Reitz High School Football Home Page that August.
Since then, Engler, through ReitzFootball.com, has spent the past 25 years chronicling the rich history and tradition of Reitz High School Football.
Engler and his wife, Melissa, have two sons, Logan and Micah, and a daughter, Juliette. Engler has traveled all over the world but is proud to call Evansville his home.
ReitzFootball.com has been the Unofficial Reitz High School Football Home Page since 1996 and is not sponsored by or affiliated with the EVSC or Reitz High School
