Welcome to a new series on ReitzFootball.com called Making the Cut, where we’ll take a look back at record-breaking achievements and outstanding performances made by the Mighty Panthers from throughout the school’s rich football history.
Aug. 22, 2014
The first edition of Making the Cut looks back at the Mighty Panthers’ 34-13 win over Henderson County. Of course the win was good, but what made it even better was the pair of 95+ yard touchdowns!
The first occurred right before halftime. With the Panthers trailing, 6-0, Elijah Dunham recoverd a Colonel fumble and returned it 95 yards, giving Reitz a 7-6 lead going into the half. The Panthers would get the ball back to start the second half, and wouldn’t you know it, Isaac Flowers, who caught the kickoff at the 1-yard line, returned it 99 yards!
From our research, this is the only time the Panthers have had two 80+ yard touchdowns in the same game, let alone 95-yards!. From what we can tell, Dunham’s score probably set a school record, and Flowers’ definitely did.
You can watch both scores courtesy of Home Team Friday’s coverage that night. Dunham’s fumble return is at 1:03 and Flowers’ is at 1:21.
