Top 25 Biggest Wins in Reitz Bowl History – #20: Reitz 43, Central 42, OT (Oct. 26, 2012)

After a 1-3 start to the 2012 campaign, including a 36-31 defeat to the Bears on Sept. 8, the Panthers stormed back eight straight wins, including the twentieth biggest win in Reitz Bowl history.

In the second quarter of the sectional semifinal against Central, the Panthers held a 28-7 lead. However, the Bears would make an incredible comeback to force overtime and scored first to take a 42-35 lead.

From the Courier & Press:

You could say Reitz High School’s sectional semi-final victory over Central on Friday night was also a triumph for democracy. After the Panthers’ Ke’Andre Vaughn had scored from 4 yards out to pull Reitz within 42-41 in overtime at Reitz Bowl, everyone figured they would simply kick the extra point to force a second OT.

“I thought that’s what we were going to do,” said Reitz’s Mason Schnarr. “Then we all said we wanted to win this game.”

The ayes had it.

Quarterback Drew Johnston faked a handoff, rolled to his right and fired a pass to Schnarr, who leapt and caught the ball between two Central defenders for the two-point conversion.

Suddenly, the game was over and Reitz had won 43-42.

Vaughn lead the Panthers with 24 carries for 76 yards and four touchdowns. The Panthers would beat Jasper the next week for the sectional championship before falling to Columbus East, to finish 9-4.
